Geneva School of San Diego

Geneva School is the vision of like-minded people who prepare to plant a Classical Christian Education school in San Diego.

The Geneva School of San Diego is committed to provide an educational program that is both classical in its methodology and Scripturally-based in its principles and values. We are committed to assisting Christian families who elect to live and raise children in San Diego by making available an excellent Christ-centered, classical education to their children. By doing this, we will produce leaders of Christian character dedicated to a life of service, and participate in the moral and spiritual regeneration of our community.

An Educational Framework Founded on the Classical and Christian Model

At The Geneva School of San Diego we seek to restore and employ the time-proven method of the Trivium in educating our students. This is a three-phase model that corresponds to the natural stages in child development; a classical model which for centuries has produced extraordinary men and women of achievement and thought.

The grammar phase is the first stage of the Trivium (grades preschool through six), which capitalizes on the natural curiosity of the elementary student. Here the fundamental elements of each field of study are emphasized in order to build a framework for acquiring future knowledge.

The dialectic phase is the second stage (grades seven through nine), where students begin to systematize and interpret the facts learned during the grammar phase. This stage coincides with that period of development in which the students begin to question, challenge, and test what they are learning. Formal and informal logic are taught as the basis for reasoning skills.

The rhetoric phase is the third stage (grades ten through twelve), where students are taught to use the grammar and logic of the subjects they study in order to communicate their thoughts and opinions clearly, eloquently, and persuasively.

At every level, our curriculum includes exposure to the cultural richness of our city’s museums, concert halls and other culture-centers.

Tending the Heart…

Geneva's vigorous college preparatory program does not discount the fact that students have hearts and souls as well as minds. It takes into account that, like the generations that have gone before, they are asking the timeless spiritual and philosophical questions of identity and meaning. They are searching for answers to the questions, ...Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here on earth? What lies beyond? At The Geneva School of San Diego, such questions of ultimate concern are not ignored.

Our entire educational program is grounded in a thorough study of the Bible. Just as the Bible is the normative text of the Christian Church and the most important text in our culture, it is the "first book" in our rich literature-based curriculum. Indeed, at Geneva, the formal study of the sacred text is just the beginning. Geneva students are encouraged to "delight in the law of the LORD," and to "meditate in it day and night." [Psalm 1:2]

The Geneva School is neither sectarian nor parochial. Our students are drawn from a wide variety of faith traditions. We take seriously the obligation we assume to support each family’s distinct heritage. Yet, believing that the primary value of an education is an education in primary values, we draw upon both Classical antiquity and the Jewish-Christian moral tradition to provide a spiritual vision and a moral compass worthy of our students.
